EPCOR CENTRE's One Day Arts School

EPCOR CENTRE's award-winning One Day Arts School (ODAS) delivers a day of arts immersion that supports curicular learning for grades K-12. Bring your students to the EPCOR CENTRE for a day of artistic and customized learning that meets your curriculum requirements.


One Day Arts School includes:

• Two custom made fine arts workshops to teach your chosen curriculum subject using the arts as a learning medium, or
  

• Two custom made skill-building workshops to learn two types of art forms such as dance, drama, music, visual arts, etc.

• A tour around Calgary's premiere arts centre, including a theatre, concet hall, costume shop and a rehearsal space. (Subject to availability).

Workshops are held at professional rehearsal spaces and in the Arts Learning Studio.

* Attendance at a resident company's matinee performance (Theatre Calgary, ATP, One yellow Rabbit, CPO) and Vertigo Theatre Y-Stage can also be arragned based on availability and as a supplement to one of the workshops.

Examples of Popular Curriculum Related Workshops:

Grade 1: Science - Creating Colour: Use visual art, creative movement and music to explore, create and experiment with colour. Creative Movement: Explore concepts related to colour using your body. What does the shape of red look like?

Grade 2: Social Studies- Communities in Canada: Investigate life in the Inuit, Prairie and Acadian communities. Drama: Create a dramatization of an Inuit legend or myth to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of Inuit?s culture and heritage.

Grade 3: Social Studies- Communities in the World: Investigate life in India, Peru, Tunisia and Ukraine. Dance/Music: Practice the harvest and celebration dances of India, investigate the fusion of the country?s traditional and contemporary styles and develop a deeper understanding of the culture?s evolution.

Grade 4: Science- Light and Shadow: Observe the effects of light and shadow and identify light sources. Visual Art: Explore light and shadow in abstract or realistic art through drawing and painting.

Grade 5: Language Arts- Poetry: Examine imagery in poetry through visual arts. Investigate and apply rhythm in poetry through music, creative movement and vocal expression.

Grade 6: Science- Trees and Forests: Learn about trees and forest ecosystems. Visual Art: Explore leaf shapes, leaf arrangements, branching patterns and the overall form of a tree through visual art including; painting, printmaking, collage, and mixed media.
