LET'S CREATE AN OPERA!
Create an opera that involves your entire school community with the help of artists from internationally recognized Calgary Opera.
This sponsored program allows your students to have the opportunity to work with a composer, a librettist (writer) and a stage director to make their own, original opera that will be performed at the end of the year long residency. The entire school community (teachers, staff, parents, students) are also invited to attend the dress rehearsals of the opera season at a reduced cost.
At no cost to the school, Calgary Opera will provide selected schools-
-an introductory presentation to staff and half day of professional development
-a writer to help the students write the opera libretto
-a composer to work with the music teacher and students composing the music
-a stage director to prepare the show for the stage
-an education coordinator available to work with the school
- lighting and sound equipment
-technical consultation and a staff person to run the show at a reduced cost
- free dress rehearsal tickets for all Grade 5 & 6 students, for a performance at the Jubilee by Calgary Opera
The school will provide-
- any technical equipment required over and above what we provide
- technical fee for sound/light operator (reduced cost provided by Calgary Opera)
- costumes and scenery
- accompaniest
- choreographer if required
-staff support for all aspects of the production
